How to crochet a (polaroid) camera bag!

how to crochet a camera

So today my sister Margot is going to show you how you can crochet this SUPER cute (polaroid) camera bag! I’ve seen many of these on Pinterest, but I couldn’t find one with a proper pattern for free. Most of the links showed an Etsy-shop where I could buy such a bag. As a true DIY’er, I figured I should make a pattern myself, but my little sister was one step ahead of me. And I am very very very grateful for that! The project isn’t too difficult, so if you are new to crocheting, I think you should be able to make this. Let’s have a look!

What do you need?

  • a crochet hook size 5
  • yellow yarn
  • grey yarn
  • black yarn

Of course you can use any colour yarn you’d like, that’s what’s so much fun about DIY: you can make it as YOU want it to be. So don’t be afraid to use any other colour, you should use at least three colours for this project.

How to crochet the camera

camera tas haken (9)

With yellow yarn, chain 21.
Single crochet in second chain from the hook, all the way to the end (20 sc).
At the end of the row chain 1 and turn your work.
One single crochet in every stitch, so 20 in total. Crochet 30 rows (or more if you want your bag to be bigger).

Now switch to grey yarn and single crochet only in the back loop of the chain (20 sc). At the end of the row chain 1 and turn your work. Now single crochet in each stitch (so 20 in total). Do this 4 more times (total 6 rows of grey yarn).

Do the same on the bottom with the grey yarn (6 rows).

Fold your piece double and with needle and thread you attach the sides together. Make sure you leave the top open!

For the lens:

With black: start with a magic ring and chain 1.
Round 1: 6 single crochets in the magic ring. Pull the yarn to close the ring
Round 2: two single crochet in each stitch around (12 stitches in total)
Round 3: 1 single crochet, two single crochet in next stitch and repeat this till your round (18 in total).
Round 4: 1 single crochet in next two stitches and two single crochets in next stitch. Repeat this till you’re round. (24 in total)
Round 5: 1 single crochet in next three stitches and crochet two single crochets in next stitch. Repeat this till you’re round. (30 in total)
Cut the yarn en start with grey yarn.
Crochet two rows single crochet only in the back loop of the chain. This will create a little border for some depth in the lens.

Secure the lens with a needle and thread to the body of the camera.

You can also create some cute details with the needle and thread, as shown in the picture.

camera tas haken (5)

For the strap:

With grey, chain 5.
Single crochet in second chain from the hook, single crochet 4 in total. At the end of the row chain one and turn your work.
Make the  strap as long as you wish.
Secure the strap with a needle and thread to the body of the camera.

And then you’re done! This is what your finished project should look like!

And as I said before, you can make this in any colour that you’d like!

What colour would you like to have?

Margot, thanks for sharing the pattern for this awesome project with me. I’m surely going to make one (or two, or three) myself!

Het resultaat is ongelooflijk schattig! Helaas ben ik niet zo creatief en neem ik er ook niet echt de tijd voor. Binnenkort als ik vakantie heb moet ik er maar eens rustig voor zitten!

Thanks, ja, leuk he? Wat niet is, kan misschien nog komen! Doorzettingsvermogen is de key (en tijd, heel veel tijd). Ik wil je wel even waarschuwen dat haken heeeeeel erg verslavend is hoor! 😉
